As the war between streaming services start to intensify, it is important to know how to differentiate between all of the options. Marketwatch.com’s reporter, Andrew Keshner provided a great article on pro’s, con’s and price points for the top 6 streaming services. I highly recommend this article because it helps clarify the choices.
This comes as news about HBO’s streaming service, HBO Max, announced a major win in the streaming wars. According to their own website, it will be streaming all 279 episodes of the Big Bang and all 236 episodes of Friends. HBO reportedly shelled out $425 million for friends and $500 million for the Big Bang Theory. Over the 5 year contracts that comes to (as I bust out my abacus) $925 million.

Would you buy Disney stock right now?

Great question. The simple answer to that is no, at least not now. While Disney has several more revenue streams compared to Netflix, Disney is taking on a lot of debt in order to complete in the streaming landscape. Even their dividend yield is relatively small considering it’s revenue. Once they settle into the streaming industry and start generating cash from it, perhaps then. Until that time, my stock recommendation for Disney would be a sell.
